Court Rules Against FCC The District Court for Washington, DC threw out the FCC’s indecency decisions against the networks for among other items as the Janet Jackson’s Wardrobe malfunction. The Court called the FCC’s decisions arbitrary and capricious. The FCC has not decided yet whether it will appeal the court’s decision to the Supreme Court. Commissioner Copps did warn broadcasters not to take this decision as open season on indecency broadcasting. He warned broadcasters to take care in their broadcasts. Research Results Meeting Being Planned The Board of Directors has directed that the NJBA set up a meeting of General Managers and programmers to go over the results of the Edison Researched Survey for the NJBA. Although the survey was previewed at the Mid-Atlantic States Expo, those were merely highlights. The survey went into considerable detail developing information which is actionable by programmers from all parts of the state. The meeting being planned will delve into the details of the survey and will parse the results to achieve better programming to serve the audience of listeners in New Jersey, who do not leave the state on a regular basis for either work or entertainment. These listeners say they intend to live in this state for many years. The number one reason respondents give for considering leaving the /state is high taxes. Double check your ABIP status.
