Longtime Philadelphia DJ Dies

Hy Lit, longtime Philadelphia Disc Jockey and a trend setter in the radio rock and roll era, died early this week in Philadelphia. According to Lit’s son, the 73 year old suffered “bizarre complications” after a knee injury. Lit’s legend in radio will live for a very long time. 

FEC Okays Issue Ads For Radio

The Federal Election Commission has opened the door to issue advertising on radio after a 5 year absence. Although strict guidelines are still in effect mentioning a candidate’s name, a political party, or even the fact there is an election are all still no nos. The sponsor must also be clearly identified. The rules for radio were issued after a Supreme Court decision  striking down the Commission’s rules on corporate advertising on behalf of candidates within the periods before a general election or a primary. Also covered by the rule are unions and non-profits.  

Registration Opened For RAB 2008

The annual event featuring Radio Sales will be held in a streamlined format this coming year in February, in Atlanta. Registration is opened now and stations are encouraged to register early.  Registration for the meeting and the Hotel, Hyatt Regency Atlanta is available at the RAB web page. www.rab.com. Register today. 

Press Cards For 2008 Available Now 

The forms for both Press Cards for 2008 and Essential Personnel Cards are now available on the NJBA web site. Don’t wait until the last minute. Get your press cards and essential personnel cards ordered now. Press cards are available for all working radio news reporters in the state, while essential personnel cards, required during a state of emergency for travel on state roads, are available to NJBA members only. There is a nominal charge for the press cards, while the essential personnel cards are free. Both forms are at www.njbroadcasters.com

Remember to keep your Alternate Broadcast Inspection Current.
