NJBA Plans Local Garden State Awareness Campaign

The NJBA is currently producing a series of local “New Jersey” Radio commercials to highlight the significance of the growing New Jersey radio audience and to help radio drive innovation, change advertiser perceptions and reignite consumer passion.  We hope to have these spots available for preview and use by mid February.

Obama’s FCC Will Bring More Regulation

Be prepared to see new regulations affecting the Broadcast industry. The new administration is suggesting more regulation and oversight of broadcasters, especially in ownership diversity, EEO, local content, public interest requirements and the Fairness Doctrine. Watch for hidden measures affecting the broadcast industry like these quietly tucked away in popular stimulus package legislation.

G-Rock flips to CHR

Press Communications announced that it has flipped the modern rock simulcast of WHTG (106.3) and WBBO (106.5) to CHR "Hit 106" in New Jersey's Monmouth-Ocean market.  The market doesn't have its own top 40 station -- New York City's "Z-100" WHTZ had been filling that need. Press CEO Robert McAllan says "Hit 106" will target New Jersey listeners who've wanted a CHR to call their own.

Biennial Ownership Report Deadline – February 1

By Feb. 1, 2009, radio stations in New Jersey must prepare and file electronically an FCC Form 323 Biennial Ownership Report with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Similarly, noncommercial stations must file a Biennial Ownership Report on FCC Form 323-E.

Performance Tax Fight Ahead

Worries about a renewed effort by recording artists to push for a radio royalty performance tax are surfacing just days after the new Congress was sworn in. This potential legislation is a very serious threat to station owners already struggling in this challenging economy, and will hurt emerging artists’ efforts to get radio play. The NJBA will be actively monitoring this threat to broadcasters as well as any revival of the fairness doctrine, already being talked about in the halls of congress in confirmation hearings this week, and set forth in the new president’s far reaching agenda.

Radio Heard Here

This past year has been a catalytic one for radio. The NAB unveiled the Radio Heard Here campaign to reposition radio for a vibrant and successful future. To recognize radio's many accomplishments, the NAB has developed a comprehensive year in review report. The report showcases what we have accomplished together. Please download the report at www.nab.com and share it with your associates, your employees and everyone you know in the radio industry.

 NJBA HQ Flooded Out!

The Howard L. Green Broadcast House succumbed to mother nature this weekend when the cold weather apparently caused water pipes to break, resulting in the flooding of the basement and first floor. We are working quickly to remediate the extensive damage and the staff has been hard at work keeping the business of broadcast moving forward. Our thanks to Mary and Debbie for their dedication and team spirit!

Office Furniture Wanted

If any of our members have any old office furniture in good condition that they would like to donate to the NJBA, please call Paul at 609-860-0111. We are in need of a large executive desk and credenza, two inner office chairs, and a bookcase. Thanks!
