Vision Statement: NJBA - leader of the New Jersey Broadcasting Industry, is a fiscally sound organization with clear direction, a stable and diverse membership, and the ability to effectively support, represent, and achieve success for its members. NJBA Weekly Newsletter, Friday, October 19, 2007 Do You Have An Interest To Be On The NJBA Board? The New Jersey Broadcasters Association has several openings on its Board of Directors. This is your opportunity to have a say in the direction of your association and set policy for the industry in the state of New Jersey. If you meet the following requirements, and have an interest in serving, contact President/CEO Philip H. Roberts. You must be employed at a radio or TV station in New Jersey and have the approval of your employer. You are asked to attend four board meetings a year and serve on several committees. This is your chance to help chart the direction of this business going forward into the future. Applicants must be approved by the NJBA Board of Directors. State Leadership Is Coming Join fellow broadcasters from all over the country in Washington, DC as the industry visits our elected members of congress. Both the NJBA and the NAB invite New Jersey Broadcasters to Washington, expenses paid, to meet with your congressmen and senators. State Leadership starts February 27, 2008 and runs through March 1, 2008 with visits on the Hill. Rooms have been reserved at the Mandarin Oriental and transportation to and from Capitol Hill will be provided. If you can join us, call Mary 1-888-657-2346 or e-mail Mary@njba.com. Shield Law Veto Expected The Law that would protect reporters’ sources will be vetoed by President Bush if it passes the Senate. The bill passed the House overwhelmingly this week. Citing National Security and terrorism concerns, the White House announced that President Bush will positively veto the legislation. Passage in the Senate is chancy, at best. Although the sponsors of the bill have agreed to some DOJ and White House language, the Justice Department has major security concerns. Conference Planning On Schedule The Convention Committee is moving ahead with planning for the annual June Conference, June 2 & 3, 2008 at Caesars in Atlantic City. The overall theme of the Conference is Broadcasting and the Internet, Perfect Together. In Sales, Sean Luce, an NJBA favorite, will be training on selling the Internet along with your station. Programmers will discuss how to use the Internet to boost listening and how to use your Station to drive people to your web site. The Engineering and Management sessions will be dealing with the Internet as well. Mark your calendar and save the dates, June 2-3 2008. The Chair of the Convention Committee is John Mozes. Broadcasters Dodge The Bullet In its current round of EEO audits, letters from the FCC were directed to Cable Companies and not broadcasters. Stations that subscribe to EEO1Source simply need to print out an audit report and send to the FCC. Joining EEO1Source is free to New Jersey radio and TV stations. However, there is a nominal charge for faxes and for extended “Help” calls. To subscribe contact Debbie 1-888-657-2346 or e-mail Debbie@njba.com. Remember to keep your Alternate Broadcast Inspection up-to-date! Get QuickNews via E-mail. It's Fast and Free. E-mail njba@njba.com and in the subject line put the words "subscribe QuickNews". That's all there is to it. |
