3rd Adjacent Protection Guaranteed For NJ FM’s

This week, the Senate Commerce Committee introduced legislation to do away with third adjacent protections for FM stations from Translators and low power FM’s. Because of the very crowded spectrum in the Northeast, the legislation, if passed, will contain a special clause that will exempt New Jersey Stations from the removal of 3rd protection in the state. New Jersey Broadcasters Association has been working on this project with Senator Frank Lautenberg for several years. The Senator is dedicated to a vibrant New Jersey Radio Market. So whether the bill becomes law or doesn’t, New Jersey Stations will still have 3rd adjacent protection.

New Jersey Assemblyman Named To FCC Panel

Assemblyman John J. Burzichelli was named to serve on a national panel that advises the Federal Communications Commission on telecommunication issues affecting state, local and tribal governments. The Assemblyman was one of 15 named nationally to the advisory board. The board was formed 15 years ago to give local input into FCC policy on issues such as broadband access, facilities sitting, public safety communications and public rights of way.

Time Is Running Out

Thank you to all of the broadcasters in New Jersey who have indicated a desire to participate in the State Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. The conference features meetings between broadcasters and our members of Congress. It’s the time when Broadcasters have the opportunity to meet the members of our congressional delegation, face to face, and discuss our challenges and successes.  We still have a few slots open for broadcasters who would like to attend. Please contact Mary and let her know you want to join us on the Hill. All travel, hotel, and food expenses are paid by the NJBA. Please call today. Time is running out.

More HD 2 As WFUV Pumps Up the Music

Fordham University’s WFUV launched a new HD2 channel last weekend. The fulltime service is called FUV 24/7 and will be broadcast 7 days a week both on the HD2 channel and as streaming audio on its web site. In the wings are plans for the station’s HD3 channel. According to PD Chuck Singleton, the 3rd channel will be devoted to younger music and this channel is schedule to hit the air in the fall of 2008.
